On the Water Again: Marinas, Boat Launches, and Lakefront Spots Around St. Joseph
Whether you like to sail, swim, or just catch some rays with the sound of gentle waves in the background, most people like to spend time around water during Indiana's blazing summers. Our real estate agents certainly do!

Hunter Lake Boat Launch
Address: 10451 Cottage Grove Dr., Middlebury, IN 46540
Hunter Lake is surprisingly serene considering its size. It's one of the largest lakes near our Middlebury homes for sale and is home to a diverse range of fish species. Its only boat launch is located on its northern edge, just off of State Road 120.
Note that while the boat access itself is public property, much of the surrounding land is not. Take care to stay on public land and avoid disturbing local homeowners.
Cobus Creek County Park

Cobus Creek County Park spans more than 80 acres of land near our Elkhart homes for sale, just north of our Wakarusa homes for sale. The terrain inside is an exciting mix of prairies, wetlands, and woodlands that is sure to keep you on your toes as you explore.
A long section of Cobus Creek runs through the park, so you'll have plenty of places to relax by the water or wade through the shallows. While you're there, take a look around to discover:
- A sensory garden
- Picnic tables and a shelter
- Open and wooded walking and cycling trails
- Many fishing spots known to attract trout
The park is free to visit and has a large free parking lot at the entrance.
Waubee Lake Park

Waubee Lake Park is an idyllic lakeside retreat just a handful of miles east of our Nappanee homes for sale. The space sits on the northern edge of the lake it was named after. You'll find plenty of family-friendly amenities here, including:
- Shallow swimming spots
- Boat launches
- A playground
- Basketball courts
- Picnic areas, charcoal grills
It's free to visit, and there are lots of free parking spots for guests.
Fuller's Resort and Campground

- A 400-foot beach where you can swim and sunbathe

Hudson Lake Boat Launch

The Hudson Lake Boat Launch is a new addition to Hudson Lake, one of the largest natural lakes in the state. The water covers more than 400 acres of land near our New Carlisle homes for sale and can only be legally accessed at this public launch point. Fishing and paddling are permitted here, too, but swimmers are encouraged to enter the water from the beach at the Lakeside RV Resort instead.
Hudson Lake is on public land, so it's free to visit anytime you please.
Townline Beach
Address: 10379 Town Line Ave., Union Pier, MI 49129
Townline Beach is a 100-foot stretch of soft pale sand on the shores of Lake Michigan, just a few minutes' drive from our Union Pier homes for sale. It's small but secluded, offering a quieter atmosphere than many of the other public beaches in the area.
This is a public beach, so you can visit it anytime for free. Take care if you struggle with stairs: there's a steep set of steps leading from street level down to the sand.
